Eric Texier

Rhone, France

Two decades ago, Eric Texier embarked on a remarkable journey, nurturing a 12-hectare estate in Brézème, a picturesque pocket of the northern Rhône and the serene Ouvèze valley of Ardèche. What sets Eric apart is his unique transition from a nuclear engineer to a passionate winemaker, driven by an enduring love for wine. His journey encompassed enology studies in Bordeaux in 1992 and apprenticeship under Jean-Marie Guffens in Mâcon, culminating in his inaugural 1995 vintage. Eric Texier's most extraordinary feat lies in the resurrection of the almost-extinct wine regions of Brézème and Saint Julien en Saint Alban. These appellations, once fierce rivals to Hermitage in the 19th century, dwindled to a mere hectare by 1961. Eric's unwavering dedication has restored their grandeur. Eric's commitment extends beyond Brézème, forging a reputation for biodynamic vineyard practices and a winemaking philosophy rooted in minimal intervention. His approach yields wines that harmoniously blend tradition with sustainability, bearing the unmistakable stamp of Eric Texier's passion and expertise.
